Interesting and touching contemporary art on display at the Mältinranta Art Center.

Anna Korpilinna's exhibition Musta maa at the gallery, featuring paintings, ceramics and installations.

Korpilinna says about her exhibition: "The exhibition brings together and concludes my four-year work on an imagery inspired by Egypt. During the last year, I have been thinking a lot about loneliness and survival, and how it affects and manifests itself psychologically, physically and structurally on both societal and personal levels.

In my works, I often deal with emotional experiences and their unchangeability across eras and societies. How certain emotions and experiences, such as shame, fear, loneliness, are accepted and loved The need to become touches us all, regardless of social class, origin, place of residence or era. I work with different painting techniques. In my work, it is important for me to find out what a work needs to reach its full potential? How to choose the right material, base or form for the work so that they support the content of the work and vice versa."

Mari Mäntynen's exhibition Prison Guard's Daughter in the Studio.

There are photographs and a video work on display. The works were created as part of Mäntynen's art project, which began in 2019 and was carried out in the Kerava prison area. Artist Mari Mäntynen spent her childhood in the Kerava prison area, in her father's employment apartment. The Prison Guard's Daughter is a return to a familiar environment over the years.

Mäntynen now looks at the place as an adult, but wants to retain something of a child's way of looking: curiosity, playfulness and open-mindedness.

In the project, Mäntynen has encountered former and current prisoners, as well as prison employees and guards. He does not photograph them from the outside, but takes pictures with them and builds situations in which familiar roles can momentarily give way. A human pyramid is created with the prisoners. A former prisoner and a former guard play tarball together. In the prison garden, three people climb different branches of the same apple tree.
