Surrealism – A Collective Dream

Tampere Art Museum’s large-scale international exhibition displays Surrealism’s visions of reality as the movement celebrates its centenary and presents encounters between its pioneers and prominent contemporary artists. Central themes include identity, gender, technology and mental health viewed from different perspectives.

The exhibition examines Surrealism and its impacts from the 1920s to the present day. The works of the original Surrealists engage with the interpretations of succeeding generations. The dialogue between these works shows that Surrealism is not just an historical movement, but rather one whose influence extends up to the present day. The themes and subjects of the avantgarde seem more topical today than ever.
