Tampere Day fills the city with events – check out the program!

Tampere turns 246, and a festive atmosphere will take over the city from 3–5 October 2025. The traditional Tampere Day weekend offers a diverse program for all ages. There will be culture, sports, open doors, and tours around the city. Check out the program and come join the celebration!

Most of the events during the celebration weekend are free of charge. In this article, we present a few events, but the full program and more detailed information about the events can be found on the Tampere day website. The festival weekend program consists of events submitted by various organizations in an open call.

Celebrating democracy at Old city hall 

The historic Old city hall will open its doors for tours on Saturday and Sunday. The tours will introduce visitors to the history of the Neo-Renaissance building, completed in 1890, and the many stories associated with it. The tours will be led by authorized guides from Tampereen Matkailuoppaat ry. The tours celebrate the 150th anniversary of Tampere City Council and city democracy. The tours will be held in Finnish, but you can ask the guides questions in English during the tour. 

You can sign up for the tours via the link at the end of this article. Each tour has space for 25 people, and places will be filled in order of registration. You can join the waitlist for Saturday’s tours, and there is still availability for Sunday’s tours.

Basketball and parkour in Kaleva

On Saturday, it’s time to jump into the world of parkour and basketball at the opening event for Kaleva’s parkour park and outdoor basketball court from 2 pm to 3.30 pm. At the park, visitors can try parkour with enthusiasts of the sport, meet Pyrintö basketball players, and try out different shooting and dribbling exercises. Coffee and juice will be served to the first 150 visitors. The event will be opened at 2 pm by Deputy Mayor Ilkka Porttikivi.

Get to know Tampere on guided tours

Tampere Tourist Guides will once again be organizing a variety of guided tours around Tampere during the event weekend. Walking tours in English will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 1–2.30 pm. During the tours, you will see the most important sights of the city centre and learn the essentials about the city of Tampere, its history, current know-how, culture and diverse events. The tours start and end at the Old Church in Central Square. Free entry. 

Enjoy culture at museums

Most of Tampere’s museums offer free admission to their exhibitions on Sunday, October 5. Take a Sunday museum tour around Tampere.

In 2025, Tampere will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Moomins. On Tampere day, the Moomin Museum will hold an open house on Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. At the museum, you can see the illustrations donated to Tampere by Tove Jansson, experience the adventures of Moominvalley, and explore detailed Moomin pictures.

The Tampere Art Museum will host two new exhibitions: Young Artist of the Year 2025 Man Yau and Hanna Haaslahti’s exhibition. The museum will be open on Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.  

At Museum Milavida, you can learn about the international life of the Nottbeck family, owners of Finlayson, in the exhibition Nottbecks – Cosmopolitans of Tampere, and admire the magnificent costumes seen on the stages of the Rome Opera in the exhibition “Bravissimo! Splendour of Teatro dell’Opera di Roma costumes”. The museum is open on Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm.

Autumn atmosphere at Stable yards

The Stable yards will be filled with handicrafts and activities for the whole family on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. Enjoy live music, go for a horse ride, and see the work of visiting craftspeople. Pony rides are available on both days from 11 am to 3 p. for €10.

Big machines and the joy of running at Central square

On Saturday, big work machines take over the Central square as the Big Machines event arrives in the heart of Tampere from 10 am to 4 pm. There will also be a Moomin atmosphere when Little My, Moomintroll, and Sniff arrive to greet visitors to the market square. Admission to the event is free.

On the same day, the Tampere Runs event will feature five- and ten-kilometer runs and a half marathon in downtown Tampere, starting at noon. The races will start at Central square. There is a participation fee for the event.

Discover Korean culture

On Sunday, discover Korean culture when Korean Day arrives at Artteli and Dance Theater MD. The program includes K-pop dancing, Korean puppet theater, a hanbok fashion show, and calligraphy workshops.
