Weekend Programme

In the 18th century, the Tammerkoski rapids, connecting two local lakes, were discovered as a significant source of hydropower. By decision of King Gustav III of Sweden, a new city – Tampere – was established in the Swedish realm in 1779. This year, our beloved city has its 243rd anniversary.

On Tampere Day weekend, we celebrate the unique atmosphere of our city. In 2022, Tampere Day was celebrated from September 30 to October 2, and it filled the city with art, experiences, open doors, and festivities. Thank you for joining the celebrations of our beloved city!

    Oct 1, 2022, 12 to 6 pm Tampere Rescue department – Open house. Kekkosenkatu 8. Free entry. Come and see the biggest lifeboat Repa and join us to hear about volunteering in sea safety.

    Oct 2, 2022, 10 to 3 pm Tampere Fire Department – Open house. Satakunnankatu 16 (Tampere Central Fire Station) and Hervannan valtaväylä 100 (Hervanta Fire Department). Free entry.

  • Saturday 1 October 2022 12—13.30: Walking tour in English: Tampere in a nutshell. Duration 1,5 hours. Tour starts and ends at the Old Church at Central Square (Keskustori). Free entry.

  • What on earth is the international house? Welcome to see what International House Tampere is about!

    We are a single service point supporting internationals with living, working, studies and connecting with local employers. We provide information and advice on moving to and settling in Tampere, looking for a job, studying and entrepreneurship. Our advisors can help to accelerate your job search plans and study possibilities. In addition, we organize events to support your job search and chances of finding a job.

    At the Multilingual info Mainio, located in the International House, you can ask anything about different topics of everyday life in 14 different languages. Mainio’s advisors can help, for example, untangling Finnish documents or official correspondence, filling in different forms and applications, or making appointments.

    During open house, we welcome everyone for a visit to the International House Tampere! There is a varied programme on site for you to participate in any time between 12 and 4 pm. Visitors also get to spin the wheel of fortune, which might bring a nice surprise! In addition, the works of art by international artists can be seen on our premises on the open day.
